500 steampunks at the Asylum 2011The Historic City of Lincoln

September 6th-9th 2012

Main event website: http://steampunk.synthasite.com

Weekend at the Asylum is the UKs's original steampunk festival and is the largest steampunk event in Europe.

It is a celebration of all things steampunk from fashion to art exhibitions and socialising to live music.

In its fourth year this is one of the premiere steampunk events in the World attracting visitors from across the globe.

The Asylum has developed into a fringe style festival with a range of events and features so you can pick and choose exactly what you want to go to. Having listened to our guests we have also tried to split all of the evenings into two thus giving you time to be entertained and time to socialise. You can even attend an early and a late feature on the same evening if you really want. The best of both worlds?

Since this festival is run by steampunks for the steampunk community we are proud to say we are the cheapest and best value event of its type anywhere.

For the duration of the festival steampunks take over the historic quarter of the City of Lincoln.  Wandering medieval streets in full steampunk splendour you can be sure of a warm welcome.

This years venues include:

  • The medieval castle with its Georgian and Victorian interiors.
  • The sumptuous Georgian County Assembly Rooms.
  • The Bishop Grossteste University's splendid modern theatre and students union.
  • The luxurious Charlotte House Orangery.
  • The ever popular Victoria Inn and Widow Cullen's Well.

Since this is a fringe style festival you may find the array of tickets on sale a little confusing at first.  It is done this way to make it more accessible to more people and means you only pay for the parts you want to go to making it more affordable.

The first two options are your wristbands for access to the programme of day features.  This is our exhibition areas, competitions, talks and lectures, signings, panels, the sales areas (The Bazaar Eclectica) and other features in the Castle and Assembly rooms. Please note that unlike previous years the castle is not free for access by the general public. Your weekend or day band gives you access to the castle as well as the events.

The other tickets are grouped by day and cover the evening features.

Some new events have been especially designed to be accessible to newcomers to the festival who want a gentle introduction to Steampunk (e.g. the Theatrical Performances, Fashion Show and Comedy Night)

Please print out your tickets and keep them safe.  You will be able to exchange your weekend or day tickets for a wristband from either of our two event offices (The Victoria and BG University) from around 2pm on Friday.  We will even be offering some check in facilities at the Advance Guard gathering on Thursday night. (Widow Cullens)  You will use your other tickets to check in to other features individually.  This should save much of the queueing and mean you only have one wristband to wear.

Disabled Access:  We are very sorry to say that whilst all of our entertainment venues are fully accessible the Bazaar Eclectica has limited access.  This is due to the nature of the Grade One Listed property (the Castle) it is held in. (Georgian and Victorian).  The Castle is working to improve access and indeed for this year it is actually slightly worse than previous years because of the ongoing building work.  The aim is to have it all fully accessible by 2015 and we apologise in advance for this.  We will do all we can to facilitate access since the inclusiveness of steampunk is something we hold very dear and we sincerely regret the inconvenience.

We are pleased to announce that Gladstone will be joining us for Club Night.   Tickets will go on sale shortly.

People who already have tickets for The Men which we sadly had to cancel will receive an email in a little over a week's time with the option of changing their ticket or asking for a refund.

Please retain your ticket though as it can be exchanged at The Asylum for a complementary copy of The Men's new album!

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

We are very sorry to have to announce that The Men Who Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing will not now be appearing at The Asylum 2012.  They have been asked to perform at Bestival this year and of course this is a mainstream opportunity that is too good to turn down.  We are delighted for them and wish them the best for Bestival. Tickets for their gig at The Asylum have been withdrawn and 45 people are affected.   We are offering a full refund of course.  If people can allow us a few days to try and plan an alternative offering etc before applying for a refund that would be extremely helpful.

Thank you.

We are very sorry folks but the Empire Ball has now sold out!    There are lots of tickets available for the weekend and lots of evening entertainments though.   We look forward to welcoming you to The Asylum.

Thursday, September 29, 2011

We are absolutely staggered.  Tickets have been on sale for just four days and we have already sold 1/6  of them.  We hope you are all looking forward to The Asylum as much as we are.
